Volunteer TEFL Teacher

GREECE / Humanitarian Suport Agency

Humanitarian Support Agency (HSA) is a small NGO based in Lesvos, Greece providing humanitarian relief services to refugees.

We have recently established a community learning hub with its main activity centred around the provision of English tuition for adults of all levels and we are now recruiting for volunteers to join our program and deliver quality English language tuition.

Kara Tepe, the site in which we are based, is located on the south east cost of Lesvos, close to the main city of Mitilene. Kara Tepe is an open camp (meaning refugees are free to come and go as they please) and conditions are good, clean and safe.

Currently we run 2 classes per day at beginner and intermediate level, and a once weekly advanced English book club.

We are looking for volunteers who meet the following criteria:
21 years old and above.
Hold the 120 hour TEFL certificate (minimum requirement)
Can commit to 1 month.
You must be financially independent (but we may be able to offer subsidised housing at a cost of 8 EUROS per day)

It is important to be aware that whilst conditions are good, you will be working with potentially traumatised and vulnerable populations and work can be emotionally strenuous. It is vital that you familiarise yourself with the current crisis situation and carefully consider how you will deal with stressful situations.

The population at this site is transient, typically residing for 2 weeks to 2 months. As such, class sizes will fluctuate and you will be expected to be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs.
