Description of the project:
The basic goal of this non-profit organization is to preserve the culture of the Pokomchí Maya by promoting the value of the Pokomchílanguage and literature. In addition the project also offers social and educational services in order to contribute to the social development and academic promotion of the Pokomchícommunity. The focus of the project lies on developing the culture of the Pokomchípeople, so that it is retained and valued by future generations.
Currently they are working on creating tours and offering handicraft workshops demonstrating typical handicraft techniques. Moreover, they also offer traditional cooking, conduct literacy courses in Pokomchífor the local community and work with the youth of the communities.
Tasks:
• Help out in the museum: organization, translation, promotion or create flyers
• Work with adolescentsor teach English in educational institutions which are located outside the tow
• Work as a physical education teacher
• Work schedule: from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
• Vacations: Easter week, Christmas school vacations
Accommodation, Benefits and Costs:
• You can stay in a host family (from50 US$/ week incl. 3 meals a day) or in a hostel (on request)
• Proyecto Mosaico books your lodging, Spanish school and your transportation from the airport, furthermore we offer individual assistance provided by the office in Granada before, throughout and after your stay
• For our work and our services we ask a one-time-only fee of 250€ – regardless of the length of your stay
Requirements:
• Minimum stay: 1 week
• Spanish level: Basic
• Skills and expertise: Creativity, flexibility and patience
