G-20 WWOOF Program in South Korea

WWOOF stands for World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms and is part of a world-wide effort to link volunteers with organic farmers.

Wwoofers (volunteers) help hosts 5-6 hours per day in exchange for food and accommodation while simultaneously sharing their own cultures and views. WWOOFing is a great way to learn, experience and share different cultures, foods, languages and knowledges while travelling around the world. In Korea, WWOOF Korea is operating as the representative of WWOOF organization here.

This particular G-20 WWOOF Program links wwoofers to carefully selected rural experience villages instead of individual organic farm so that participants will be able to have more chances to meet the locals and enjoy the well-preserved nature and culture of rural areas as well as experiencing the life in farming and fishing villages.

Participating in the programme are:

Natgang Village in Inje County, Gangwon Province, where participants can enjoy the thrill of rafting on the Soyang-gang River;

Oiam Folk Village in Asan County, South Chungcheong Province, where participants can learn about the architectural structure of thatch-roofed traditional houses;

Handeumi Village in Danyang County, North Chungcheong Province, where they can spend time with children who travel to the mountainous village for study;

Dangam, or Sweet Persimmon, Village in Changwon City, South Gyeongsang Province, situated near Lake Junam, a haven for migrating birds.

This total of 6 nights and 7 days program departs every week but schedules and details are subject to change according to situations. Foreign participants in the program are recruited in groups of 20 every week. They are further divided into groups of four to five members each, and are given a taste of life and culture in the experience villages

Foreign residents/visitors aged 19 or older are qualified to take part, and WWOOF Korea. There is an application form in the attached document and on the website below. In the program, volunteers are given a chance to visit farming and fishing experience villages and are granted free meals and lodgings, while helping out with farming work in the village, participating in experience events, spending leisure time, and chatting with villagers as they experience the diverse everyday life of the villages.
