Vine Trust Volunteer Maintenance Work Party to Peru, 10-24 October 2015
Often regarded as vermin and worthless, street children in Peru can face unimaginable living conditions and abuse. The Girasoles or ‘Sunflower’ programme was set up to help provide a safe place for street boys to grow up, surrounded by love and support.
Over the years, Vine Trust has been involved in helping to build several of these homes and we are now seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help us maintain the buildings and the grounds.
A Maintenance Work Party is usually made up of 15-20 volunteers, and offers the opportunity to be involved in the Girasoles street children’s programme first hand. Whether a skilled construction worker or an enthusiastic volunteer, anyone, young or old, who can hammer a nail, learn to make bricks or wield a paintbrush is welcome to apply. The important thing is enthusiasm and determination for the job at hand.
Some of the jobs involved in a maintenance trip include painting, sanding, varnishing, clearing ground, landscaping and gardening. There’s also plenty of time to organise sports, games, activities and crafts for the boys, as well as visiting local tourist attractions and experiencing the beauty of Peru.
If you would like to be part of this exciting opportunity to really make a difference to the boys living in these homes, visit Vine Trust’s website to find out more about the Trust’s work with vulnerable communities in Tanzania and Peru
