Volunteer Child and Family Clinical Psychologist


UGANDA / Psychological Services International (PSI)

The Child and Family Clinical Psychologist is primarily responsible for supervision and training of PSI staff and partners, and for case management with a range of clients with different needs. This post is ideal for candidates interested in gaining experience working with clients affected by conflict, applying psychological models in different socio-cultural contexts, or in helping to expand the provision, acceptance, and uptake in psychological services in the developing world.

· Help us develop psychological services in Uganda by training and supervising local clinical psychologists

Main Duties:

· Supervision, Consultation and Training

· Conducting psycho-educational assessments (using WISC IV and WIAT)

· Conducting psychological therapy with children and families who present with emotional or behavioural difficulties

Person specification

Essential

· Experience of case management

· Knowledge and experience of conducting psychological therapy with children and adolescents, including their families

· Ability to work across different cultural groups and to adapt psychological therapy, as well as supervision

· Flexibility to work within a small, but growing, social enterprise.

· Ability to work in line with PSI’s policies relating to issues such as child protection, confidentiality and managing clinical risk.

· Experience providing training, clinical supervision and consultation to other mental health professionals.

· Ability to maintain high standards of clinical record keeping.

Desirable

· Previous work in an international psychological organisation

· Previous experience of working or living in a developing country

· Knowledge and experience of working with post-traumatic stress, particularly conflict  induced trauma
