Volunteer at a school in Siem Reap, Cambodia

CAMBODIA / Cambodia School of Higher Education

Hi, my name is Mr Rady I am the Headmaster of 3 English schools just outside Siem Reap. We also have a fourth school that we are in partnership with and support, close to Bakong Temple. The schools are all funded by charitable donations and are free for all 500+ students who attend.

I would like to invite people from all around the world to come and volunteer at my schools. Volunteers can teach English, teach I.T or help in other way they can. Previous volunteers have helped erect a fence, paint, plant trees and build our school library. Any help you can give is always appreciated and the students love to speak to people from around the world.

We’ve recently opened a computer room at our larger campus, so that students can have free access to computer lessons and learn essential I.T skills.

Volunteers will stay at the volunteer house which is on site at my family home and is situated between the 3 schools. We have mattresses, pillows, blankets, mosquito nets and fans. I must charge a small amount per day to cover the costs of hosting you.

We offer two options of accommodation. Shared dorm rooms are $60 per person per week and private rooms are $80 per person per week. All rooms include all of your meals, unlimited drinking water and tea, electricity 24h, wifi access and transport to and from the school all day.

Volunteers can stay as long as they like and any help they can provide is always gratefully received.

The schools run from 8-10am in the morning and 2-6pm in the afternoon, Monday to Friday. Volunteers can teach 6 hours a day or not teach at all, or anything in-between. Weekends are free and many volunteers choose to visit the Angkor temples or Siem Reap.

So I invite you to come and see how Cambodian families live, meet the students, help the schools and enter into the Cambodian way of life.

VOLUNTEERING UPDATE: Due to the recent expansion and development of our current school, the opening of our second and third site and our partnership with a fourth school, we now need a variety of different volunteers.

Aside from English teachers, we would also like to hear from people with IT experience (basic level, mostly using Microsoft office and teaching typing skills) who would be interested in teaching in our new IT suite.

We’d also like help keeping the grounds and classroom areas clean and tidy. This would include general cleaning duties, refilling and cleaning the water filter machines, tidying the books and stationary in the library and some simple gardening tasks throughout the day.

We also have many building, construction and maintenance work around the schools such as fixing fences and building rooms.

Finally we need volunteers to participate in Fundraising to keep our schools financially stable and to develop our second school, which needs extra classrooms to support the high demand of students. For example, selling bracelets on the streets, collecting donations and getting involved in fundraising events.

Expires: Nov 24, 2014
