CHILE / English Opens Doors Program

Supported by the Chilean Ministry of Education and the UN Development Programme, the English Opens Doors Program works with native and near-native English speakers between 21 and 35 years old to teach English in Chile under the direction of head teachers in public and semi-private schools.

What do volunteers do?

– Motivate students to learn English.
– Help students improve their speaking and listening skills.
– Share own culture with students, thus broadening their worldview.
– Spend 25 hours a week in the classroom, and another 10 hours each week leading an extracurricular activity. Each volunteer has the flexibility to determine what specific extracurricular activity they’d like to lead with their students.
– Participate in English Camps, Debates, Public Speaking and Spelling Bee competitions, and other initiatives of the English Opens Doors Program.

Volunteers receive: food and accommodations through host families, a volunteer allowance to offset teaching related costs/local transportation, in-country health insurance, in-country transportation, week-long orientation, online Spanish course.

Volunteer requirements: Native or near-native English speaker between 21 and 35, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, assume the associated costs (transportation to consulate, cost of obtaining documents) of obtaining a Temporary Residence Visa before arriving in Chile, assume the cost of international transportation to Santiago according to the program start date, have access to sufficient funds in order to cover personal/leisure expenses during the program.

Important: EODP does not charge any fees. Temporary Residence Visa fees from consulates are waived.
