Free (or Cheap) Volunteer Work in Cameroon

We found a surprising number of organisations looking for volunteers in Cameroon. Besides those currently given below we have several more organisations to check out and decide if they meet our free or cheap requirements.

Grassroots Volunteering in Cameroon

The organisations listed below have either got in touch with us to add their details to this or another of our websites, or we otherwise have reason to believe they are actively looking for international volunteers and charge reasonable or no fees to join in, live and work with them:

In Defence of Animals
www.ida-africa.org

Enjoy the experience of witnessing chimpanzees living life as they were meant to live it. Volunteers pitch in wherever they are needed, helping with the day to day operations of the sanctuary. Tasks include working with Cameroonian staff, helping with chimpanzee care and feeding, washing fruit, cleaning cages, assisting with facilities and fence maintenance, overseeing use of project equipment, painting, buying food and supplies in town and other manual tasks.

Contact with the chimpanzees occurs during daily feedings but hands on contact with the baby chimps is limited. Experience living in a developing country, preferably Africa, for several months or longer OR previous experience working with chimpanzees or great apes is required. Volunteers should be over 21 and need to speak French. Six month commitment required.

Where: The Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center.
Accommodation & Costs: Accommodations and vegetarian meals are provided while at the Rescue Center. There is a one time applicant processing fee of $300.
