Grassroots Volunteering in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The organisations listed below have either got in touch with us to add their details to this or another of our websites, or we otherwise have reason to believe they are actively looking for international volunteers and charge reasonable or no fees to join in, live and work with them:
Collective Aid
www.collectiveaidngo.org
Since 2017, Collective Aid have welcomed over 1,600 passionate and committed volunteers from all over the world wanting to support people on the move. Language skills are an advantage here: they especially encourage applications from volunteers who speak Serbo-Croat-Bosnian, French, Pashto, Arabic, Farsi, Kurdish, Turkish, Urdu, Hindi, Tigrinya, Amharic, Oromo, Thai, Vietnamese, and Punjabi. Most of their shorter term volunteers will be working on the ground in their various projects, usually in Bosnia, Serbia and France. Volunteers have cooked, driven, written, cleaned, taught, packed, organised, fundraised, posted, built, played, painted, emailed, designed, translated, collected border violence testimonies, and so much more. They strongly encourage people that may be concerned about the financial costs of volunteering to apply, saying they are committed to making sure that financial barriers do not prevent anyone from volunteering with them.
Hostel Work Exchanges
Free food, accommodation and pocket money during the high season are the perks for helping out at Taso Guest House for at least four to five to weeks.
Other Opportunities to Volunteer in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Neither Cats of Trebinje nor Cats of Mostar make mention of accepting volunteer help on their socials but Adelle Goodman, founder of Travel Animal Rescue and a font of knowledge on this subject, suggested them to someone wanting to volunteer at an animal shelter in the Balkans so they probably do. Glupina’s Legacy, founded in the loving memory of one stray cat in Tuzla, is maybe another to try.
It is possible to apply to volunteer with Svitac Bosnia , a multi ethnic youth arts and education organisation in Brčko, through Love Volunteers who make placements here on its community development project. Love Volunteers’ fees tend to be fairly reasonable at around $20 per day (plus a one off $299 registration fee) for food, accommodation and in-country support. Applications can also be made through Omprakash.
