BBC SEEKS GROWN UP GAPPERS

Did you miss out on a Gap Year when you were eighteen and are
considering making up for it now? Whether you're on the verge of
booking your flights, or simply have a strong desire to pack your bags
and leave for a few months, the BBC would like to hear from you. They
are looking for 'Grown-up Gappers' to take part in a new BBC TV
documentary series.

You'll be over 30 - there is no upper age limit! You will be living in
Britain, self-financing and, ideally, planning to travel alone. If this is you
please contact Olivia by email: gappers@bbc.co.uk or call 0208 752
7779. (Sorry, but if you're already on your travels it's too late to call)

To let you know a little more, "Grown up Gappers" will be a prime time
observational documentary series on BBC Two, featuring eight people,
who for various reasons, are wanting to take time out later on in life,
this programme is not looking at students who have some time on their
hands, they want to feature the grown ups! The people who have had
families, relationships and careers and never got the chance to travel
when they were younger.

It is so popular now for mature people to take a long break from
everything and more and more people are considering doing this later
in life. The programme will film all the planning and preparations for
extended travel (this might include selling or renting homes, leaving
jobs or selling possessions to fund the trip), then subsequently film
everything during the time abroad observing the decisions and actions
taken, to the final return.

> MADAGASCAR
Azafady is a UK charity and Malagasy NGO working in southeast
Madagascar to alleviate poverty, improve well-being and protect
beautiful unique environments. Pioneer Madagascar is a unique
opportunity for people to directly support and participate in Azafady's
work at the frontline of global conservation and development.

Pioneers join the Azafady NGO team in southeast Madagascar for ten
weeks. Pioneers work within local communities supported by our team
of specialists gaining skills and experience in a diverse range of health,
sustainable livelihoods and environmentally based projects. Living
conditions are basic, usually camping in beautiful remote areas and
cooking over a fire.

Besides physical and mental health, enthusiasm and cultural sensitivity
are key requirements; specialist skills and experience are welcome but
in no way essential to become a Pioneer.

Pioneer volunteers are asked to raise a minimum donation of £2,000
preferably through sponsorship activities, as this helps to raise public
awareness about the unique beauties of Madagascar along with the
plight of its people and its many endemic and endangered species.

Apart from being a unique personal adventure, Pioneer is a great
opportunity to gain experience towards a career in conservation and/or
development work. Pioneer schemes begin in January, April, July and
October each year. Visit www.madagascar.co.uk to find out more.

Peace Corps: Life Is Calling. How Far Will You Go? For many people
looking to enter into international careers, Peace Corps can be an ideal
opportunity to learn a language, gain cross cultural experience and
build the confidence to function in a new environment. Volunteers
receive intensive language and cross-cultural training in order to
become part of the communities where they live. They speak the local
language and adapt to the cultures and customs of the people with
whom they work.

Volunteers work with teachers and parents to improve the quality of,
and access to, education for children. They work with communities to
protect the local environment and to create economic opportunities.
They work on basic projects to keep families healthy and to help them
grow more food. Their larger purpose, however, is to work with people
in developing countries to help them take charge of their own futures.

At the same time, volunteers learn as much, if not more, from the
people in their host countries. When they complete their service in the
Peace Corps, volunteers work to strengthen America's understanding
of different countries and cultures.

The Peace Corps is fulfilling its promise by sharing America's most
precious resource with the rest of the world: its people. Volunteers
have helped pave the way for progress for countless individuals who
want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their
communities.

Most Peace Corps Volunteers are college graduates with degrees in
liberal arts, such as history, political science, English, social studies, or
psychology. The Peace Corps can find assignments for people with
degrees in photography, theater, and other fine arts. There is also a
need for people with degrees in non-liberal arts fields, such as
business, engineering, and the sciences. In addition, there are
opportunities for individuals with professional skills and work
experience (in such areas as business, technical trades, and
agriculture) and a commitment to service, but who may not have a
college degree.

In order to qualify for Peace Corps service, applicants must be US
Citizens and at least 18 years old. While most of the programs require
a college degree, many people qualify for peace corps service with
experience in fields such as business, agriculture, skilled trades or
computers. For more information about Peace Corps programs and
application procedures, visit www.peacecorps.gov.

from the local community. Special skills, professional qualifications or

Mighty and beautiful it may be, Australia is forever at the mercy of
the elements, and man. Clearing of trees for cattle and sugar-cane

You can start your placement in any of the following cities:
Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth and/or Sydney.
From your gateway city, you could be based anywhere in the
