Eco Africa Experience offers self funding volunteers a unique
conservation opportunity to work on some of Southern Africa's
premier private game reserves or leading marine ocean
research projects.

A conservation placement is the ultimate life changing and
rewarding experience and only very seldom do we get the
chance to give something back and make a difference to the
future of our natural environment.

Placements range from 2 to 12 weeks, during which time you
can be involved in conservation projects like anti poaching
patrols, monitoring and counting of wildlife, darting and animal
capture, bush rehabilitation and the day to day maintenance of
the reserve. You can also divide your time by volunteering at
different reserves, i.e. 8 weeks at Amakhala, and 4 weeks with
the ORCA Marine Project. www.EcoAfricaExperience.com

> HONDURAS
Volunteer Latin America, Reptile Conservation Volunteers.
Volunteers interested in animal welfare, environmental
education, nature conservation or conducting independent
research are needed to join a reptile conservation project
located in the beautiful Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras.
The slow pace, natural beauty, friendly welcome, and cost of
living make the location of this project particularly appealing to
travellers who enjoy getting off the beaten track. If you are
interested in diving the island offers an excellent opportunity to
see Whale Sharks, the world's largest fish.

This project also offers the opportunity to get involved in field
work and wildlife monitoring during the breeding season from
March to May each year. Volunteers for other tasks are
welcome throughout the year.

No specific qualifications or skills are required though
motivation, enthusiasm and a flexible approach are essential.
Volunteers usually spend from 3 to 12 weeks at the Station.
You need to be aged 18 or above to apply.

Volunteers are charged a station fee of US$122 per month of
stay. This fee includes the use of electricity, gas, drinking
water, bedding, towels and kitchen equipment. There are a
number of bicycles available for use by volunteers at no cost.
Volunteers are expected to take enough money to cover their
food expenses while on the project. Please visit our website or
contact us by email for further details about this exciting and
low cost opportunity. info@volunteerlatinamerica.com /

> PERU
The Inka Porter Project (IPP) is an NGO based in Cusco,
Peru, working with porters and muleteers since 2002. The Inka
Porter Project is developing a training and drop-in centre for
porters and muleteers in Ollantaytambo, two hours from
Cuzco.

The centre will empower indigenous workers in the trekking
industry such that they have the skills and confidence to make
positive choices about how they work. It will provide a place to
talk and advice and encouragement about channels for
informing authorities of abuses and problems. Self-esteem
tends to be very low amongst porters and muleteers. This,
compounded with the lack of employment in Peru, contributes
to the prevalence of very poor working conditions.

We are currently looking for funds to employ training staff, but
expect the centre to be staffed by volunteers for at least a
year. We wish to recruit volunteers for a minimum of one year
in the following roles: Training Centre Director, two Centre
Managers, a Training Manager and Training Coordinator.

If you would like the be involved in the establishment of this
exciting new project, please visit

Then email a CV with covering letter to Louise Norton at
louise@peruweb.org Deadline for applications for these roles
is 3rd October 2004, although late applications may be
considered.
