MEXICO
Among the Mayan People of Mexico. Global Vision
International is pleased to launch a new expedition focusing
on
community education and sustainable development in the
stunning Mayan Riviera in Mexico. Expedition members are
urgently required to join the GVI team starting from April
2005
to assist in a variety of sustainable development initiatives,
teach English and increase awareness of the impacts of
tourism on local culture and resources among the Mayan
community.
This
is an excellent opportunity to learn about sustainable
development, increase your knowledge of Spanish and be
part
of the Mayan community in a beautiful area - one of the
top 10
beaches in the world!
Due
to pressure spreading down the coast from the tourism
mecca of Cancun, the local Mayan community is finding
both
its culture and its natural resources increasingly under
pressure. The expedition supports the efforts of GVI's
local
partners to increase the long term benefits of tourism
to the
local population.
Expedition
members will receive teacher training to become
certified TEFL teachers. There will be ample opportunity
to
increase their knowledge of Spanish and learn limited
Mayan
while immersing themselves in the surrounding community.
Activities include; English language lessons, providing
information on the area's natural resources and local
flora and
fauna, sustainable development seminars, and assisting
in the
creation of sustainable, locally run businesses.
Global
Vision International is now looking to recruit participants
for the advance expedition starting in April 2005 and
for future
expeditions running thereafter for periods of 5 - 20 weeks.
Prior background knowledge in teaching techniques and
some
basic Spanish is an advantage, although not essential
as GVI
provides a comprehensive training programme. Those
interested in taking part should call Chris Ash on 0870

in
The Republic of Cameroon which is a French/English speaking
member of the Commonwealth. Our partners are Mr &
Mrs

Buea,
in the northern English speaking coastal region of
Cameroon is in the foothills of Mount Cameroon, West Africa's
highest active volcano, it is one of the wettest places
on planet
earth and is still [just !] an eco-environmental paradise.
Former volunteers are available for comment by e-mail.
Volunteers should understand French but the working
language for both the two week Africatrust induction course
and day-to-day work is English.
Volunteers
will be housed within their own accommodation
close to the project. The mid-visit break would be to
visit the

as an
opportunity to climb Mount Cameroon if it is not erupting!
