JAB IS BACK AND ON THE MOVE AGAIN
Hello, the Jobs Abroad Bulletin is back. Our apologies for not
being able to send you an issue of JAB for a while but a
number of events - including family illness and bereavement,
homelessness, and some serious computer, server and
connection problems - have knocked us a little bit wobbly and
it has taken some time to get reorganised.
Apologies too if you have sent us email and have not received
a reply. We’ve only been able to connect to the i-net
intermittently to receive email and until yesterday have been
unable to send mail.
There are still a number of things to sort out. The website
needs some TLC and updating and we’re trying to find a less
laborious way of updating the Overseas Job Centre – the way
we did so previously is impractical for our present situation as
we are on the road again.
We are currently in Corfu Town, Greece, and intend to stay for
a few months to get work done. We weren’t really ready for an
extended trip and so have spent the past few months bouncing
back and forth to the UK, crashing with family and friends for
as long as we dare before jumping on a plane to give them
some respite.
Destinations have included Egypt, Bulgaria and Romania and
though we’ve lots of stories and tips we’d love to pass on they
will have to wait as you’ve been waiting long enough for this
issue as it is.

2006 Summer Hire
Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort
The Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort is a 32 unit Motel that
includes an on premises ice cream shop, monthly rental units
and various sport activities and beach amenities. The resort is
a family business with a Mediterranean flair (our family is
Greek-American) and we have housed foreign students on
property to provide help during the high season months of
June through September. The following is a description of the
three areas were seasonal employees will be assigned. Our
intent is to provide a broad range of work experience to our
employees and provide exposure to all aspects of motel
operations. Actual assignments will vary based on skill levels,
interest and scheduling.
ICE CREAM SHOP CLERK: Ice Cream shop starts the day in
morning serving coffee along with a small amount of pastries.
The rest of the day Ice Cream, candy, soft drinks and a small
number of shakes are served. The facility is a small log cabin
on property with an open seating area. Job duties include set-
up and stocking shop before opening, preparing coffee, ice
cream cones, shakes and sundaes for guests, cleaning interior
and exterior areas of the shop, cleaning, taking inventory,
completing replenishment order forms, watering plants and
shut down tasks in the evening.
FRONT DESK/OFFICE: This role will be filled by those
individuals who have a strong command of the English
language, desire direct and phone-based interaction with
customers and demonstrate strong customer service skills.
Duties include responding to inquiries over the web, via the
phone or in person regarding the resort and surrounding
amenities. Taking reservations (includes posting in our
Property Management software application, sending
confirmation letters and filing), showing rooms, checking
guests in and out, running the night audit, dealing with
discrepancies, preparing the maid and maintenance lists,
supervising the laundry, accepting monthly rents, maintaining
journals and filing.
GROUNDSKEEPER: Job duties include maintaining the
cleanliness of the beach and hotel exterior, setting up beach
chairs and umbrellas for our guests, some landscaping
(watering flowers and plants), maintaining the hot tubs, and
some basic maintenance of hotel rooms.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
* First and foremost all positions require a courteous and
friendly attitude towards our guests. There are no exceptions.
* Working to excellent knowledge of the English language. All
employees must be able to communicate effectively and
understand instructions clearly the first time.
* Attention to detail and pride of work. From housekeeping, to
the ice cream shop to the front office, work must be done
completely, neatly and to the customer’s satisfaction.
* Front office skills require working knowledge of computer
applications, organizational skills and the ability to supervise
others in a positive and effective manor.
* Other important skills include the ability to handle sometimes
difficult customers, multi-tasking, working as a team/supporting
each other, willingness to work evenings and weekends.
COMPENSATION:
The housekeeping, and ice cream shop positions pay $7.00 an
hour plus tips. Tips at the ice cream shop can be significant.
The front desk position pays $8.00 an hour. Grounds keeping
position pays $9.00 an hour. ALL positions require the signing
of an employee contract that includes the possibility of a bonus
for strong performance and a financial penalty for early
termination or willing departure in advance of scheduled end
date.

* Through regular promotion assist residents in all aspects of

entails: We run a cafe/Bar in the Marina of Puerto Sherry, in El

the week. The tips are divided each week between all the staff
that have worked that week. The amount varies depending on
