> FRANCE
Carisma specialises in beach holidays for families. We have mobile homes and

tents on campsites situated on or near the beach on the west coast of France.

We are a small, family-run business who rely on the personal, friendly service,

both in England and France, that we offer to all our customers. We are,

therefore, looking for responsible site managers, couriers and children's couriers

(aged 19+) to work in France from early May through to late September. There

are also a few vacancies for employment from late June to early September.

Applicants should have experience in dealing with people and be of a helpful
and friendly disposition. The ability to take responsibility and deal with situations

and problems as they arise is essential and good spoken French is preferable.

As a small company, we rely on our team in France. The necessity to keep
morale high is therefore important and so we allow our employees to take a high

level of responsibility and organise their time so that once the work for the day is

done there is plenty of opportunity to make the most of the beach location of our

sites.

The work involves cleaning, preparing and maintaining tents and mobile homes
up to a high standard, welcoming families, providing information and advice,

baby-sitting as well as organising customer social-evenings. The lifestyle is very

sociable but there is a great deal of hard work. However, constant customer

contact can provide the instant rewards of making a family's holiday a happy

one.

Self-catering accommodation is provided in tents, travel costs to and from the
resort are paid together with a wage commensurate with the position and full

training is given on site in France at the start of the season.

Contact Chris Simpson on 01923 284235 or send your details to Carisma
Holidays, Bethel House, Heronsgate Road, Chorleywood, WD3 5BB.

Raleigh International is a leading youth development charity that inspires

people from all backgrounds and nationalities to discover their full

potential by working together on challenging environmental and community

projects around the world. We run three-month expeditions with the option of

independent travel after the expedition, and look for volunteers aged 17-25

for these expeditions all year round. The expeditions are part of a longer

programme of training weekends and workshops prior to expedition that

concentrate on global issues and your own personal development.

The good news is that, unlike travelling independently, doing a Raleigh
expedition should also be a free experience! As we are a charity you can

fundraise the £3,300 (all-inclusive) needed to go on expedition. The

fundraising challenge is achievable (22,000 people have done it) and is

highly valued by employers. For more information, take a look at our

Voluntary Work at the Monkey Sanctuary.

General Information

The Monkey Sanctuary is home to a colony of woolly monkeys, established in

1964 as a refuge for ex-pet and ex-zoo woolly monkeys. The Sanctuary received

recognition as the first place where this beautiful species of monkey bred

outside its own habitat in the South American rainforests. The Sanctuary is

open to the public during the summer months. The care of the monkeys is in

the hands of an experienced team of people. As a conservation and educational

unit run by a small community, the Sanctuary attracts people of varied

backgrounds and interests.

Volunteers
Over the course of a year, the Sanctuary receives several dozen people for

voluntary work, with up to seven at any one time. First time volunteers are

booked in for two to four weeks. Sometimes placements can be extended,

depending on requirements at the time. Usually a few people each year stay

for longer periods, often people who have volunteered before and wish to

return. Volunteers over 18 years old may choose to stay in our private home.

Alternatively, volunteers may rent local holiday accommodation. Volunteers

need a workable knowledge of the English language. No qualifications are

needed - volunteers usually come because they share a concern for animal

welfare, conservation and the need to question people's attitude to other

animals.

Voluntary Work
All year: Volunteers join the Sanctuary team in cleaning monkey territory,

preparing monkey food, gardening, street collecting and general maintenance.

Summer: The Sanctuary is open to the public from Easter to the end of

September. During these times volunteers help in various ways: serving in the

Sanctuary's vegetarian cafe, and sweeping paths and public areas.

Winter: From October to Easter, most work is in the grounds and gardens

including monkey territory maintenance. Volunteers help with building,

repairing and painting territory structures, management of wildlife friendly

areas of the gardens and maintenance of the house and grounds.

Volunteers do not work directly with the monkeys under any circumstances.
Keepers spend many months learning to recognise not only each individual

monkey but also their personalities and the group dynamics.

Financials
We ask volunteers for a voluntary donation to The Monkey Sanctuary Trust, the

charity which supports the Sanctuary (suggested amount per week £35 waged,

£25 unwaged/student). Volunteers can also become a Friend of the Monkey

Sanctuary (FOMS) for an additional £10. FOMS is a good way for interested

people to keep up to date with the monkeys and Sanctuary events. Members

receive an introductory newsletter, biannual updates, postcards, a

certificate and a badge.

Accommodation and transport
Volunteers may choose to book local holiday accommodation or over-18's may

choose to live in with the Sanctuary team, sharing a room with other

volunteers. Volunteers may share our meals or eat out at local restaurants,

pubs and cafes. We are unable to help with travel costs. The summer holiday

period is very popular, and is therefore often fully booked months in

advance.
