> MADAGASCAR
Azafady is a registered UK charity (no. 1079121) and Malagasy NGO
working to alleviate poverty, improve well-being and preserve beautiful
unique environments in southeast Madagascar. We are an award
winning team that works alongside rural communities on integrated
conservation and development projects helping communities to build a
better future for themselves.

Pioneer Madagascar is a ten-week volunteer scheme, run by Azafady,
departing four times a year in January, April, July and October.
Pioneers gain first hand experience of frontline development and
conservation work with NGO Azafady. Volunteers live, work and travel
through some of the most beautiful and remote parts of southeast
Madagascar. Living under canvas with basic facilities, the types of
projects that Pioneers will be involved include: building wells to provide
clean water which helps protect villagers from the spread of cholera;
monitoring endemic and endangered lemur species; assisting with
GPS and other data-collection for forest management plans or
establishing community market gardens and beehives to improve
nutrition and provide villagers with alternative incomes.

As part of the scheme, volunteers are asked to raise through
fundraising a minimum donation of 2,000. This goes directly to support
Azafadys charitable work, with only a small proportion used to cover
the volunteers food, safe water, in-country travel, orientation and
language training whilst in Madagascar. Full support and advice is
given to applicants on fundraising, international travel, visas, insurance
and medical preparations before the expedition. Groups of 10 to 15
Pioneers are accompanied by dedicated staff whilst in Madagascar.
Pioneer is open to people over the age of 18 of reasonable fitness. No
specific qualifications are required; we are looking for enthusiastic
volunteers who are happy to participate in the varied on-going projects
of Azafady.

Peace Corps: Life Is Calling. How Far Will You Go? For many people
looking to enter into international careers, Peace Corps can be an ideal
opportunity to learn a language, gain cross cultural experience and
build the confidence to function in a new environment. Volunteers
receive intensive language and cross-cultural training in order to
become part of the communities where they live. They speak the local
language and adapt to the cultures and customs of the people with
whom they work.

Volunteers work with teachers and parents to improve the quality of,
and access to, education for children. They work with communities to
protect the local environment and to create economic opportunities.
They work on basic projects to keep families healthy and to help them
grow more food. Their larger purpose, however, is to work with people
in developing countries to help them take charge of their own futures.

At the same time, volunteers learn as much, if not more, from the
people in their host countries. When they complete their service in the
Peace Corps, volunteers work to strengthen America's understanding
of different countries and cultures.

The Peace Corps is fulfilling its promise by sharing America's most
precious resource with the rest of the world: its people. Volunteers
have helped pave the way for progress for countless individuals who
want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their
communities.

Most Peace Corps Volunteers are college graduates with degrees in
liberal arts, such as history, political science, English, social studies, or
psychology. The Peace Corps can find assignments for people with
degrees in photography, theater, and other fine arts. There is also a
need for people with degrees in non-liberal arts fields, such as
business, engineering, and the sciences. In addition, there are
opportunities for individuals with professional skills and work
experience (in such areas as business, technical trades, and
agriculture) and a commitment to service, but who may not have a
college degree.

In order to qualify for Peace Corps service, applicants must be US
Citizens and at least 18 years old. While most of the programs require
a college degree, many people qualify for peace corps service with
experience in fields such as business, agriculture, skilled trades or
computers. For more information about Peace Corps programs and
application procedures, visit www.peacecorps.gov.

Au Pair in America "Believe it when past au pairs rave about this being
the most amazing adventure. It's an awesome year!" This is what
Sarika Hurgan, a returned au pair had to say about Au Pair in America.
Au Pair in America is the ideal way to live, work and study legally for a
year in the United States. Au Pair in America operates the largest and
longest established legal childcare programme to the United States,
travelling on a J-1 visa. Au Pair in America offers applicants the choice
of three programmes to America: Au Pair in America, Au Pair
Extraordinaire and EduCare in America.

The Au Pair in America package includes free return flights to New
York from London and other destinations word wide, medical insurance
(candidates must contribute $100 toward medical insurance), a month
travel period and a four-day orientation course near New York covering
first aid, culture shock and what is expected in general childcare. Au
Pairs receive a weekly payment of $139.05 and a $500 study
allowance in exchange for up to 45 hours of childcare a week, plus
room and board. Applicants with a childcare qualification, at least 20
years old with two years of recent childcare experience under their
belt, you could earn $200 per week as an Au Pair Extraordinaire.
EduCare in America has fewer childcare hours and a $1000 study

faith deposit' that is payable when matched with a host family. The
good faith deposit is reimbursed after completing the 12 months and
the study component of the programme.

Au Pair in America does not only recruit from Britain, but from over 50
different countries worldwide. Recruitment takes place throughout the
year with two to four departures dates per month, giving applicants the
opportunity to depart when even they are ready to embark on their
