GERMANY
Volunteers
Open Houses EV
We are looking for volunteers in our Workcamps, Building Weeks, Open House-projects and MTV-projects!
Workcamps
For the last 20 years Open Houses Network has organised international workcamps in historic monuments and buildings.
Our projects are mostly in the countryside.
For this reason we are looking for volunteers who are ready to get to know the countryside of Germany. They should be open minded, flexible and creative.
The workcamps offer the possibility to live together with people from different countries in basic conditions
The volunteers will help us to restore these historic monuments and buildings.
Often, the honorary commitment of people from other countries and cultures leads to a renewed regard by the inhabitants of the region itself for their own historic buildings, particularly in rural areas where the buildings had rarely received public attention.
Building Weeks
In contrast to the workcamps where the emphasis lies on communal life in a group of people of different nationalities and from different backgrounds and the working time is 6 hours a day, in building weeks the emphasis is on manual work and the daily working time is 8 hours. Participants here have a greater possibility of gaining real experience in restoration and other manual tasks and to broaden their knowledge.
A further aim is that those taking part should share their skills and experiences. To make the work in our building weeks as productive as possible, the volunteers should have some technical skills and it also could be advantageous if they have structural previous knowledge.
The building weeks each last for two weeks and the groups are small - up to eight people depending on the number of applications received. It is also possible to take part for a shorter time, e.g. just for one week, as we would like to offer this opportunity also to those who are tied up in professional life and have got some free time.
Open House
The “Open House” is an offer to those who have some time available, who want to escape from noise and hectic of the daily working life in the cities and search for alternatives to enrich their life.
If s/he likes new experiences and challenges, if s/he is interested in handicraft, likes to meet people of different cultures, has fantasy and a lot of nice ideas and if s/he does not mind living in very simple conditions – s/he is very welcome.
The base is the readiness for being responsible for the houses and the guests and to have engagement and motivation for the work you can do. These do not necessarily have to be handicrafts: preparing food, repairing bicycles, taking care of the guests – there are always a lot of things to do and everyone can find and take his part.

Nationalities accepted: For countries with visa applicants: we only cooperate by partnerorgansations.

· £995.00 subject to no changes in cost
Summer 2009 - Dates to be confirmed
· Cost around £875.00
International Work Brigades are working holidays with a difference, as well as volunteering you get to mix with people of different ages and backgrounds from all over the world, and learn about a fascinating country.
Members of the Brigade (Brigadistas) stay on the Julio Antonio Mella camp in the countryside, about 30 minutes from Havana, working alongside Cubans for three weeks.
Past Brigadistas have taken part in a range of projects, from picking fruit and clearing wood in agricultural areas to building schools and painting museums.
As well as voluntary work, your time in Cuba will contain cultural visits to some of Cuba’s museums, educational visits to hospitals, schools and community projects, trips to the delightful Cuban beaches and lush Cuban countryside and a number of optional excursions.
Plus enough free time to sample some famous Cuban hospitality, with dancing, rum and cigars or stroll around Havana’s old town which is a UNESCO World heritage site.
Going on the work Brigade is a practical way of showing solidarity with the Cuban people. It gives you an excellent opportunity to learn about the achievements of the Cuban Revolution as well as allowing an insight into the difficulties caused by the illegal US trade blockade.

RUSSIA
Volunteer
Language Link Russia
The Language Link Volunteer programme is a fantastic opportunity to acquire work experience in an international environment. The wide variety of programme options means that whatever your motivation and interests, there is sure to be something that suits your requirements. The programme is also a great way to experience life in this fascinating country without all the difficulties associated with independent travel in Russia – we will help you arrange your accommodation, visa and registration, and advise and support you as you adapt to life in a different culture. Volunteers spend their time at our language centres in Moscow, St Petersburg or Volgograd, and it is sometimes possible to split the programme between more than one of these cities. The widest range of programme options is available in Moscow, but the other cities also have much to offer, especially for those who want to experience Russian life away from the more westernised metropolis.
The standard programme durations are 6, 12, 24 or 36 weeks, but other lengths from 6 to 36 weeks are also possible. Start dates are flexible. If you decide that you would like to participate in the Volunteer programme (or apply for any of our other opportunities), please go to the application procedure section of the Language Link website, http://www.jobs.languagelink.ru/jobs/application/, read through the guidelines, then fill in and submit an online application form.
Nationalities accepted: We are able to offer visa support to citizens of the UK, the USA, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and most Western European countries.

Volunteer Kotlas
Language Link Russia
Volunteer Kotlas is a program set up in partnership with Lyceum 3 in Kotlas in the Arkhangelsk Region of Russia. The volunteer spends a minimum of 6 weeks assisting in English lessons in a school. The volunteer works 20-25 hours per week as an assistant to trained teachers at the school, who are native Russian speakers. Therefore, as a native English-speaker, the volunteer is invaluable in the classroom. As part of the program, the volunteer can also attend up to 5 hours per week of Russian lessons. The volunteer benefits from experiencing a Russian-speaking environment on a daily basis at the school. This new and exciting opportunity is for those who want to experience life in Russia away from the westernized capitals. Volunteering in Kotlas is an excellent way to immerse oneself in the culture of Russia and meet Russians who have had little exposure to foreigners. For those who want to come to Russia to improve their Russian language, spending time in a provincial town can truly help to rapidly improve the volunteer's level of Russian. Kotlas is a town in the south of the Arkhangelsk Region, where the Northern Dvina and Vychegda rivers meet. With a population of around 60,000 people, Kotlas is not a big town, but is still important. It is a river port and railway center, and has many famous factories. The town is lively and has many sports teams, a theatre and museums.
