Investigation of water quality degradation issues, as a consequence of unsustainable methods in regional agricultural production, is an objective of southwest Florida based research projects related to this assignment.

This training includes serving as a field, lab and office assistant responsible for extensive networks of flow, water quality and weather monitoring stations, theirs maintenance and further improvements.

In wider perspectives, this is an effort to collect scientific data to support planning methods for meeting new, long-term water quality goals. We are therefore seeking strongly motivated students, willing to assist scientists and engineers, who are striving to explore and develop strategies to protect and enhance Florida's sensitive natural resources, while also sustaining economically viable and compatible agricultural industry.

List of main tasks:
- Get familiar with assigned research project objectives;
- Collect samples (water, soil, grass, etc.) during field trips, according to specified methodologies;
- Prepare collected samples for laboratory analysis;
- Review and document obtained lab results;
- Summarize all activities in field logs Identify potential quality control problems and develop new procedures for reducing them;
- Maintain field instruments in working condition;
- Do necessary repairs to the field equipment as needed;

Our company has developed and produced a low-cost automatic water sampler that includes electronic, hydraulic and mechanical components. This internship project involves assistance in designing and assembling a composite water sampler, using off-the-shelf components (relays, pumps, solenoid valves etc.). This project provides an excellent opportunity for practical application of a student's skills and ideas. We are seeking students and recent graduates prepared for taking on the challenge of developing creative solutions, to improve current automatic water sampler model. The resulting next generation sampler will be very helpful in addressing needs of hydrologists and other scientists, as well as local community.

List of tasks:
- Maintain field equipment in working condition;
-Document all preventative maintenance and repairs;
- suggest improvements in water sampler designs;

Our company maintains an extensive network of remote field data collection stations in south Florida. Data from these stations are currently collected by technicians who visit these sites on a weekly or monthly basis. The internship involves developing low-cost telemetry systems using off-the-shelf device technologies (spread-spectrum, cellular, etc.). Data collected from these sites are also to be integrated with the project management web sites to facilitate access by research partners and clients.

Interns will study:
- previous interns' resources documenting telemetry and databases systems including hardware, software, telecommunication service provides
- water sampler hardware to understand the instruments feeding the telemetry system
- manuals and online resources describing software environments (PC 208W, Delphi FTP application, PHP, MySQL, Apache, Campbell Scientific DataLogger programming language, etc.) to be used in telemetry and databases project
