ATLAS is an Alternative Travel Local Association on the island of Gran Canaria. Our mission is to create an alternative to the unfair mass tourism industry, which brought little benefits for local people. We see travel as a way to promote cultural exchange, environmental awareness and a fair economy.
ATLAS is an important space and a reference for alternative culture in Las Palmas, as we provide a space for artists, associations, activists,and everybody wanting to share art, culture or knowledge. (Facebook: Asociación Atlas Gran Canaria)
All this is possible thanks to the arrival of travelers, whose contributions make it possible to maintain our space.
If you love the beach and outdoor sports this is the right spot for you! We are located just 5 minutes from 2 beaches, Las Canterras and el Confital. There are several surf spots for all levels. People also practice kayaking, snorkelling, and stand up paddle amongst other activities. On the island you can also practice climbing, hiking and windsurfing.
We look for volunteers helping us with cleaning and housekeeping tasks and in the office welcoming guests. Volunteers help us 20 hours per week and we offer accomodation in shared staff rooms (2 or 4 beds). We host between 6 and 12 volunteers, depending on the season. We welcome all volunteers to get involved in the activities organized by the association.
NOTE THIS IS NOT A PARTY HOSTEL! As we are a cultural association respecting our neighbours is very important to us! We strictly respect quiet hours from 22:00 to 7:00. However, if you want to go out there are many bars, restaurants and clubs nearby.
We hosted more than 100 international volunteers within the last 4 years. What people like about our place is the great atmosphere and the great people they meet.
