Tropical Adventures
Tropical Adventures is a non-profit organization based in Costa Rica, offering volunteer tour packages for individual travelers, families and groups interested in exploring the culture, contributing to the communities, learning the language and exploring the natural beauty of Costa Rica.
Tropical Adventures has volunteering opportunites available in various parts of the country. Projects are based in Guanacaste (on the Pacific Coast), in and around Puerto Viejo (on the Caribbean Coast), and in the small town of La Flor, (located in the province of Cartago in the Central Valley).
Projects are as follows:
Children and Education:
Teach English in La Flor or Puerto Viejo.
Teaching in Elementary Schools.
Conservation and Wildlife:
Animal Refuge “Monkey Park” in Guanacaste.
Iguana Farm in Puerto Viejo.
Cahuita In-Water Sea Turtle Project on the Caribbean coast. Monte Alto Nature Reserve in Guanacaste. Natural Wildlife Reserve of Camaronal in Guanacaste. Corcovado Sea Turtle Project on the Caribbean Coast (July-March). Gandoca Sea Turtle Project on the Caribbean Coast (March-August).
Community Development:
Work in the Bambu Cultural Center on the Talamanca Indigenous Reservation. Community Work in La Flor.
Retirement Home on the Caribbean Coast.
Our programs, which volunteers can start on any date, are a minimum of 1 week long. We are able to adapt and customize these programs to suit the volunteer’s personality and interests – it is possible to combine different volunteering projects and we can even arrange tours if you wish to spend half your time volunteering and half your time vacationing.

Volunteering opportunities
ICYE-UK
ICYE-UK is particularly keen to recruit volunteers for projects in Brazil, Costa Rica, Honduras and Nepal. You could work with a social or environmental NGO and these projects range from working with disabled children to helping to establish human rights and protecting natural reserves in Costa Rica. In Brazil, volunteers can work with deaf children and adolescents from poor communities within Porto Allegre.In Costa Rica volunteers have the opportunity to work for environmental projects which help promote conservation, rural development and sustainable tourism.
Projects run for 6 months or 12 months. The cost of a 12 month placement is £3900 and the cost of a 6 month placement is £3300. These costs include return flights, accommodation, food, health insurance, pre-departure and on-arrival training, language lessons, visa support and monthly pocket money. ICYE provides full support with the volunteer's fundraising activities. We are also able to offer one volunteer £1000 towards the cost of their 6 or 12 month placement in Brazil.
