Africa & Asia Venture - An organisation that enables students to gain unpaid work experience with youth in Africa, Northern India and Nepal.

African Conservation Experience - Varied conservation work on game reserves in southern Africa. Your tasks may include game capture, wildlife veterinary work and alien plant control.

Africatrust Networks - Three to six month gap year projects to Morocco and Ghana each year.

Azafady - Operate Pioneer Madagascar, a ten week volunteer programme.

British Trust for Conservation Volunteers - Week or weekend long conservation projects in Britain. Also international working holidays.

BSES Expeditions - Overseas expeditions for young people.

Cactus Language - Language courses, tefl courses, homestays and community projects around the world. Not just restricted to students, the company offer programmes for both professionals and retirees.The website also includes examples of how to write your CV in a foreign language.

Cathedral Camps - Help to clean and restore historic cathedrals and churches in the UK.

Concordia - International volunteer projects in Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America, the USA and Japan for UK residents. The projects last two to four weeks and include nature conservation, renovation, construction, archaeology, social work, youth work and teaching.

Coral Cay Conservation - Conservation Volunteers are wanted to protect and manage threatened marine & forest environments.

Cross-Cultural Solutions - International Volunteer Programmes to Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

Cuba Solidarity Campaign - Organises work brigades to Cuba twice annually and is for people who wish to experience the real Cuba and be more than just a tourist.

GAP Activity Projects - Sends 1,300 people from the UK to over 30 countries each year. They can also find placements in the UK for volunteers from overseas.

Gap Sports Abroad - A volunteer organisation offering both sports and non sports projects overseas. From fun coaching and art and design placements to hospital assistants and teaching support.

Global Vision International - A UK based organisation which sources volunteers to international charities, non-profits and research organisations. Since 1998 they have sent over 600 Volunteers on international internships, conservation expeditions and teaching placements.

Inter-Cultural Youth Exchange (ICYE-UK) - ICYE-UK offers 18-30 year olds 6 or 12 months voluntary work overseas. Placements available in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe. Projects include working with streetchildren, disabled, NGO's, HIV education, health, environmental work.

i to i International Projects - Numerous and varied programmes in over 20 countires around the world.

Jubilee Sailing Trust - The JST enables able-bodied and physically disabled people to share the challenge of sailing a tall ship at sea.

Madventurer - Set up by Newcastle University graduate, John Lawler, aka "Torgbui Mottey 1, Chief of the Shia Traditional Area" in Ghana, Madventurers is a continuation of the voluntary work undertaken during his gap year.

Orangutan Foundation - This charity is uniquely involved in the protection of the Orangutan and it's Southeast Asian rainforest home. Their volunteer programme lasts for six weeks and includes hands on conservation fieldwork in the orangutan's natural habitat.

Peace Brigades International - Recruits volunteers to act as international observers and to accompany local human rights activists in conflict areas. PBI began working in Guatemala in 1983 and have run projects in El Salvador and Sri Lanka.

Project Trust - Spend a year volunteering in one of 24 developing nations.

Pro World - Voluntary work programmes in the central American state of Belize and in Peru. This programme is open to individuals of all nationalities and ages. Programs are four to twenty six weeks long.

Raleigh International - Volunteers aged 19 to 25 accepted on 10 week expeditions.

Sudan Voluntary Programme - Volunteers, under-graduates and graduates who are native English speakers, are needed to teach English on projects in Sudan for 12 weeks or more. 

Sunseed Desert Technology - At Sunseed research, education and ecological living are uniquely combined. Take part in research into Appropriate Technology, Semi-arid land management and organic gardening, learn about sustainable living and become part of a vibrant community for as long as you want.

Trekforce Expeditions - Trekforce projects concentrate on the endangered rainforests and wildlife of Belize, Indonesia and Kenya.

United Nations Exchange - Over 1000 projects in Europe and North America as well as a more specialised programme of projects in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Volunteer Latin America - VLA connect prospective volunteers with hundreds of environmental voluntary and intern projects in Latin America.

Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) - Skilled volunteers recruited to work in the developing world earning local wages.

Wind, Sand and Stars - Run a four week expedition to the Sinai every summer, combining local project work and leadership development and involves travelling with the local Bedouin. Open to anyone aged 16 to 23.
